That was hogwash and I don't know why I listened.

My photography and my personal blog are both part of who I am!

So until I launch my new blog I'll only be posting on my personal blog.

Two are way too hard to maintain. Not to mention hogwash!

2009 In Review

2009 was an amazing year!

I cannot thank you enough, I can honestly say that all of my clients have become my friends if they weren't already :)

And because of such an amazing year it is time to move on, grow, improve, and "go pro" I keep saying I'm a semi pro photographer or amateur wanting to go pro.
The time has come that I have to live in the now, stop putting off my dreams and go for it.

Who knows if God has granted me tomorrow and I want to live my life to the fullest.

And should I grow old and grey I want to look back with no regrets.

Even if I fail, I'd rather know that I tried.

With that in mind...the next coming weeks I'll be launching a new website, a new blog and so much more.

Thank you for tagging along with me so far in this journey and now it's on too the next adventure.

It's with much appreciation and love I express to you.

It was freeeezing on Sunday when we did this mini Christmas card shoot.

But it went VERY smoothly since this family is so freakin' photogenic.

Here's why I say that.....
Love the sunset light. Again I say....lighting is EVERYTHING.

Christmas Cards 2009 continued..

So I purchased these templates from Peahead Prints and I LOVE them!

These are the templates that I use for just about everything, my baby announcements, She Said Yes, and so on.

Well the other side of these templates are the Christmas card options....

Basically you have a choice background of green, burgandy, brown or black and then we go from there if you want 1 photo, 2 photos, 3 photos or 4

See samples below

These following cards can only be in green or burgandy backgrounds

Notice you have other options such as snowflakes, large polka dots, small polka dots, a damask design or nothing at all to accent the background.

Wording is in "traditional" or "funky" and can be tweaked to be a mix of both.

Now that I'm home on maternity leave I sometimes watch Oprah...last week I saw this and LOVED every minute of it.

Not only do I love the song and the Black Eyed Peas but the way this was choreographed was just amazing!!

FAQ - How I use Pioneer Woman Actions: Part 1

I love Pioneer Woman, and I love her free actions that she shares on her website.

I've started using her actions as a main source of editing on a lot of my photos.

So for the next few weeks I'm going to share share how "I" use her actions to enhance my photos.
I don't put "effects" on most of my photos but some of them do require just that extra punch.

I'm sure you all recall one of my fav sessions from this summer with Myrna. We were going for a certain "look" with these photos and when it came time to process them the seventies action was PERFECT!

Let me show you how.....

Here's the straight out of the camera shot....I took this in manual mode.

It's not bad really...but as previously mentioned it wasn't the "look" we were going for...so....

Christmas Cards

So I'm thinking I'll take a limited number of clients to do Christmas cards this year.

Maybe a day of mini sessions?!?!

I'm just brain storming....

Take your own photo and just add to the card.

You'll need a newer version of photo shop to use these.

Extra Large

I've loved photobucket but that's one less step I'll have to do now when posting photos...yay!

It's Thanksgiving weekend in Canada and I have so much to be thankful for.

On the personal side Kristen & I have welcomed our first child into our family.

On a professional side, I've had the MOST amazing year with Cyball Photography.

And I only have YOU to thank for that!

Just Because: We are Family

This was my last session for the 2009 summer special.

Thank you again to everyone who booked me this year, I seriously have the best clients.

All my sessions were fun and memorable. And in most cases I've stayed in contact with my clients, either via Facebook, email, and so on.

This was a very late booking that I accepted, I was weary because I was afraid I would go into labour early and then have a dissatisfied client.

Then I did go early which meant a serious delay in the processing of these photos. But here they are!!!

Last but not least....the Samms Family...extended :) I hope you are as happy with the results as I am.

Introducing.....

I've been away for the past little while because our little bundle of joy Jesse decided to show up 10 days early.

I'm adjusting to Mommy-hood and hoping to have somewhat regular posts here in the nearer future to keep things interesting.

I also have one last session that I need to finish up editing and then I can post a sneak peek of that.

But in the meantime, here's a photo of Jesse the newest member of our family :)

Custom Albums: Part II

I recently received another couple of custom album orders.....I love these so much and get so excited when I see them.
The first one I'd like to show is another 7x9 softcover and could be used either as a keepsake album or Guest Sign in Book as mentioned in THIS post.

A few of the photos on the inside, note this was designed leaving the "back" of every page blank in case it does end up being used as a sign in book.

Another layout...I personally LOVE the full page photos

And now on to the highlight of this post....my first custom designed wedding album.

Della & Jamie haven't seen this yet so it'll be a very minimal sneak peek....I'm quite happy with the results.

This is the 9x12 padded leather album (hardcover)

This is where my "custom" designing really came in....it was a lot of work and I really don't know if future albums will be "as" elaborate

I feel like this page layout tells the story of when they were getting ready before the ceremony

And last but not least......lets have some bubbly in the car :)

So that's just an idea of my product line.

I have narrowed down one more supplier for a 10x9 option and 14x12 option but basically look the same as above just a size difference and also a Linen hardcover option rather than just leather (It's really nice) However this supplier does cost a little more but in some cases will definitely be what my brides (and grooms) will be looking for.

Baby: Adrianna

You probably remember THIS maternity shoot a few weeks ago.

Well Joanne & Darryl have since welcomed BEAUTIFUL Adrianne into the world since then.

Last Sunday I had the pleasure & adventures of trying to photograph her.

I say adventures because she was an 8 day newborn who can be very unpredictable.

This particular Sunday morning she really wanted to feed which took a lot of Mommy's time...and when she wasn't feeding she was completely bright eyed and wiggly.

Luckily I was able to catch this pose of her. Love her bright eyes!

After a few more feedings, a diaper change, and some hugs and snuggles she settled long enough to grab this shot.

This one is my fav fo' sho!!!! :)

Congratulations Mommy & Daddy, you have a beautiful baby girl who's lucky to have parents like you.

I met Tasha via cyber space. We started emailing one day this past winter just to chat photography :)

We have since become Facebook friends and now I'm featuring some of Tasha's work here today.

Custom Albums

I love photobooks, which is why I offer custom albums as part of my a la carte selection.

And is also why I include albums in my wedding packages.

They're such a beautiful keepsake to showcase those special moments.

This summer I designed a couple "paperback" albums as a complimentary item to a few engagement sessions that I did.

I did this for a number of reasons;

1. I wanted to see how the paperback version compared to the leather hardcover version

2. If it looked decent I would add this "cheaper" option to my album selection.

3. Since they're complimentary the client wasn't out any money if they were unhappy with the product.

Last week I received my first of a few album orders that I did....

Remember this is a softcover album.

I took a few quick photos of on my kitchen cupboard in poor lighting.

But at least you'll get the idea.....

First the cover
This is the "basic black" option

Other choices include no photo (solid blank cover) or the whole cover being the photo only

Side view....the albums are 10 pages

Extra pages can be added for an additional fee.

Also note you're not limited to "1" photo per page though I do prefer a "simple" look

I like when things are nice & clean...too much going on takes away from the photo

I could have put a photo on EACH page but in this case I decided not too.

The main reason being, the new fad with engagement shoots these days is to have a "sign in" book designed using your engagement photos which you use at your wedding as the guest book.

In lieu of a traditional guest book or the signing of the matted photo to later frame.

So I left every 2nd page blank in case these future brides do happen to choose these complimentary albums as their sign in book.

The left page guests would sign while admiring the beautiful couple on the right :)

And then of course, some shameless self promotion at the end :)

Also note the albums are available in 2 sizes.....this one is the smaller of the two the 7x9

The other size is 9x12 (which is standard with the wedding packages)

I personally think the 7x9 option is a great choice as a "parent album"

I'll post photos of my other albums as the orders arrive :)

Things to Come....

Since I'm not really sure how I'll handle motherhood, I've been preparing as much as possible now with the freebies, blog posts, and so on to keep the blog at least somewhat interesting while I'm on mat leave.

And I'm soooooo excited with what's planned thus far!!

I'm really hoping you won't be disappointed.

That being said......I'm also looking for contributors.

My Turn: Maternity

Yep last Friday it was my turn in front of the camera.
Was I nervous? Not really.....
I had such an awesome time with Kristen and Holly.
I was actually more nervous about how my husband would feel in front of the camera but boy was that worry for nothing.
He was amazing!!! He kept suggesting poses and ideas of how we should stand, sit, etc.
Not to mention I had put quite a bit of research into the "LOOK" that I was going for with our maternity/family photos.
I wanted an urban set of photos, which we managed by wearing jeans, funky tees and taking the photos in front of an old barn, an old house, doors, windows, walls and so on.
Then I wanted sunset photos in TALL grass, where I chose to wear a dress and asked Kristen to "dress up" some by wearing a plain white dress shirt with jeans.
I had also emailed Holly various photos from other photographers so she would have an idea and inspiration of what I was going for.
She did NOT disappoint....this is only ONE of my many favourites from the session
**Just a sidenote.....Holly gave me all un-edited photos so I could tweak them however I wanted....how SWEET is that?!?!!? **

But all this rambling leads to this point.....
You get out of your photos what you put into it.
Holly is an amazing photographer who didn't hesitate for a second to roll in the grass just to get this perfect shot.
However, it was MUCH easier for her to capture my vision because I was CLEAR about my expectations.
Photographers have talent but they're not mind reading miracle workers.
If you don't know what you want, then how can your photographer portray you in the true sense of you?
Anyway.....Holly thank you thank you!
I knew you'd be able to portray Kristen & I in the exact way we wanted for our expected bundle of joy.
Along with making a custom designed photobook, now I have to decide what prints to hang in the nursery.

Maternity: Brittany

I didn't intend for this week to be maternity week, but it appears as if it's worked out to be that way :)

Here's a sneak peek of my very sweet cousin Brittany's maternity shoot.

This was my gift to her in lieu of a traditional baby shower gift...so I can't show too many photos as her gift is in the mail and I don't want to ruin the surprise.

Maternity: Joanne

When Joanne contacted me for her Bump & Baby package I was weary about taking the booking.

Being as far along in her pregnancy as she was, I was terrified that she would go into labour early and then "boo" no maternity photos.

But Baby Grice has decided to wait until closer to the due date to make his or her entrance into the world. Not sure how Mommy Joanne feels about that, but I'm sure relieved I was able to take photos without any contractions :)

It seemed everything was in our favour, no early labour, the thunder storms held off until about 20 minutes after we had finished our session and I was able to get these awesome photos

I know it's not a belly shot, but look how great these two look!

Couldn't decide which one I liked best of Joanne, so here's both. You pick!

Maternity Leave

I'm officially on mat leave and no longer taking bookings, I have a couple of sessions that will be taking place in the near future to clue up my 2009 season and then I'm off to prepare for our own new bundle of joy.

I cannot thank you enough for the most amazing summer with Cyball Photography :)

I was busier than I ever imagined and I'm so grateful.

But no worries, even though the blog posts might slow down, I'm going to do my best to have at least weekly updates, which will include giveaways, specials, favourites of 2009, 2010 pricing and promos, not to mention photos of our little one when he or she arrives.

I'll keep you updated about Christmas card sessions since I've had numerous requests to do them again this year. As of right now I'm saying no, I am not, since who knows how I'll be adjusting to motherhood, however if things are going well and it's something I feel I can put on my plate, you will be the first to know.

Just Because: Sarah

Sarah is turning 1 soon and her Mom wanted to celebrate the occasion by giving her a Just Because session.

When Sarah laughs she scrunches up her whole face, its quite adorable.

Her Mom was worried that we didn't get any of her smiling...no worries Mom, Sarah was quite the pleasant little girl to photograph and I was not disappointed with the results.

Stinky feet....LOL

I agree Sarah, they don't smell. Everyone is so silly :)

The one thing Sarah really disliked though, was her bare feet touching the grass.

She would get shivers and everything.

As bad as I felt for her I couldn't help but laugh everytime she did it.

Ahhh....didn't think the sepia tone would look this nice with the flowers.

Boy was I wrong! I love these

I'm also working on designing a custom card for Sarah's mom with one of the photos from the session. She had requested I use this verse that I just LOVE.

"We can't believe, though we've had so much fun, our Sweet little Sarah is turning one"

Happy Birthday Sarah, here's to many more.

And to Sarah's Mom, thank you for the opportunity of allowing me to meet your precious daughter. I had a wonderful time :)

Just Because: Jamey & Jason

Jamey and Jason...Wow!

That is the best word to sum up my shoot with them last Friday night.

They've been engaged for a while but commented that when they had done their engagement photos that it wasn't exactly what they had in mind.

Instead for this shoot, which I would call maybe an un-official engagement shoot, they picked an old church, St. Georges Anglican to be exact which is 100 plus years old.

I admire this church every morning on my way to work and was BEYOND thrilled when Jamey contacted me about doing the shoot at this location.

It was music to my ears, if you're a regular blog follower you know I love brick walls, steps, and old architecture.....my heart does an extra pitter patter.

But here's the best part, after the session was over, I hung out with Jason and Jamey, just chatting for almost 2 hours!! Maybe more.....

They are such wonderful people. They really are the whole package, beautiful inside and out.

But I'll let you be the judge of the outside for now.....Jamey & Jason here is your official sneak peek!

I call this one Jason's "fierce" pose....and not in a mocking way. He looks good!

As I was taking this photo, I said to Jamey, I'm so glad the wind is in our favour.

Seriously Jamey knew just how to work it out!

Thank you again...for being great people, picking awesome locations, and putting up with the what seemed like silly requests at the time but I'm thrilled with the end product.

It proved again, just why I LOVE what I do. It's clients and new friends like you that make it all worthwhile :)

I've saved the best for last. She is the final session from my trip to Newfoundland.

Myrna is one of my closest friends, a childhood friend, a member of the chicky poo's, a sister I never had (seriously look at our hair colour....LOL) and so many other things.

Myrna absolutely picked the best prop for her Just Because session.

Her Dad's old broken down GMC truck.

And not only did she pick the pefect prop, she wore a timeless outfit that allowed me to put rockin' photoshop finishes on her photos.

All of these you're about to see have some sort of "finished editing" on them.

I don't do it a lot but this whole feel just called for it. Trust me on this one :)

Just Because: The Hughes Family

The Hughes family, they're from Calgary but we're visiting Newfoundland at the same time as me and scheduled WELL in advance their session to ensure a spot in my busy schedule.

Daphne, the mom, the heart of the family, is also a very close childhood friend of mine. Over the years we've stayed close and despite the miles I still call her a very dear friend.

On this very hot and sunny Tuesday afternoon we headed out to a few locations to get their family portraits.

The results....ah-mah-zing!!! Or I think so.

It also resulted in me getting a pretty bad sunburn, my own fault for not putting on sunblock before I headed out. But it was worth it when you see the awesome blue skies that were definitely a welcomed back drop.

I think every time I turned around to find Josh he was in the water. Picking up crab shells, mussel shells, rocks, you name it. Hey what can I say he is a boy afterall....but an OH SO CUTE one at that!

So Daphne had pre-warned me that Caitlynn is NOT camera shy, and loves to pose. She was right :)

It was EASY to get this shot of her. Gorgeous!

Then we headed to a little fishing shack on the beach, no worries, my dad knows the owner and we were able to get permission to shoot there.

Engaged: Savannah & Chris

I had the pleasure of photographing Chris & Savannah's engagement photos while in Newfoundland.

They had picked two GREAT locations, both which I loved.

First the lighthouse

This location was so beautiful, that when I finished this session, Kristen and I stayed behind to take some of our own photos.

Just Because: The Brake Family

If I had to pick one word to describe the Brake family, it would be FUN!

This family knows what life is about. Its about laughter, hugs, kisses, and spending time together.

On a very cool & windy Sunday morning, my friend Jody, her husband Craig and their kids Gina & Daymon reminded me of how important family is.

Here's a couple solo shots of Gina. She talks in this oh so small voice. Seriously I could just squish her up (that's a good thing) :)

Daymon is definitely the shy one of the family. He really wasn't much for having his photo taken however he did want one of himself on a car....I love his expression of trying not to smile/laugh

Married: Della & Jamie

It's time.....for Della's & Jamie's Wedding Photos!!!! Woot, Woot!

I've been talking, blogging, preparing for this wedding for months so there was a lot of hype and build up. I can happily say, it did NOT disappoint.

As usual Jamie was himself, so sure of what he was doing that day. So sure of the commitment he was making.

Della was calm and relaxed. I guess that's how you are when you know someone as commited as Jamie is the one you're going to grow old with.

I have so many photos to share that I want to forewarn you this will be a LONG blog post. But well worth every inch :)

Lets begin with some details, the beautiful flowers and the bling bling!

I loved Uncle Steves' Place where the guys were getting ready. Loved the old light on the wall, the wood panelling, the whole feel of the place. And you can see why....

The house is full of charm

Then a quick visit to Della's parents house for the big moment of her putting on her dress.

Its such an exciting moment, it hangs in the closet, hidden from the groom, and at this moment it all comes together

The girls were a hoot!

But agreed to take a breath to pose...even if just for a moment.

Aren't they beautiful?

Here comes the bride

When Della told me they were getting married at the lighthouse I was ecstatic.

No seriously...I think I grinned the rest of the day when I found out the location. I was so excited.

Why you ask?

This is why...this is why I love weddings, why I love photography

Della & Jamie have a son named Shea, he's super cute but the day of the wedding he was a very sick boy. Here he was during the ceremony with the best man, his Uncle Jason

He stuck it out until the reception, what a little trooper

While the maid of honour was signing the register I caught this very intimate moment between Jamie & Della

The whole bridal party

Again with the lighthouse, if you're considering a wedding in Gros Morne, at least consider this location.

As we were about to head out the boys needed to take a quick pit stop.....just kidding.

Great photo though isn't it? This one was at the groom's request...I have to give Jamie credit because I never would have thought of this myself. Kind of jealous that I wouldn't have. Oh well guess that's because I'm a girl :)

When Della & I were discussing other locations to do photos, I suggested the UNESCO World Heritage Site called The Tablelands

Yep they definitely worked it out!

And my fav from this location

The food was delicious, with catering by The Chocolate Moose Bakery & Cafe

The cake which was both simple & elegant by Karyn

After the tear jerking toasts, mostly by Jamie himself.

Must note that I've never been to a wedding where the groom pretty much made everyone cry, including most of his groomsmen.

It was time to party!!!

First Dance

A little girls dance with her daddy on her wedding day is extra special but it doesn't have to be butterfly kisses and tears. It can be fun, happy and just as memorable.

Just Because: Holly

I'm really not a person who is ever at a loss for words.

I've been told on many occassions I have the "gift of gab" and even call myself a "chatty cathy" but when it comes to Holly I don't even know where to begin.

I met Holly a couple of years ago and not only has she become a friend, she's one of the few people who has supported my quest to become a photographer from the very beginning.

She has given me random notes and gifts of encouragement at the least expected times but always at the most appropriate times.

She'll talk photography with me for hours...yeah literally.

She's my sounding board when I have my MANY new ideas, some good & some very bad :)

And when she asked if I'd photograph her, in celebration of acheiving her degree, I was more than happy to oblige.

Holly is such a hard worker.....she worked full time, went to school and maintained a very hectic schedule and yet still managed to balance it all.

But at last all the hard work paid off because now she can officially say she has her degree. Congrats!

Holly was such a good sport about lying on the green grass in a white shirt. I've been wanting to try some lying down poses for quite a while and she was totally up for the challenge

Yep I can officially say this one is my favourite

And then the fence....c'mon did you think I wouldn't have any fence photos?

Just Because: Cara & Callie

Cara is a photographers dream.

She sits quietly and poses as instructed. Smiles perfectly and is as still and as patient as I required her to be.

Even at such a young age she already has a beautiful & soft demeanor.

Callie is a sweet & energetic almost two year old little girl, that literally just wants to run.

Running up the hill, running down the hill (she's still figuring out the brakes), running across the grass, and the list goes on. She gave me and my growing belly quite the workout!

But the perfect blend of the two personalities made my Sunday afternoon with these darling girls oh so much fun!

Since I was a little girl I have loved pens & paper. I loved colouring for hours.

Even now I love paper lists. And not the kind you type up on the computer.

I love sitting down with a notepad, a pen and physically writing a grocery list, a to-do list, notes, thank you cards, etc, etc, etc....I think you get the idea.

I cannot thank you enough for the AWESOME response I've had this summer.

That being said my schedule is pretty much FULL.

I have a few evening shoots available at 7pm.

I can possibly take ONE evening shoot this week (this is still up in the air since I possibly have a couple of tentative bookings, so get in touch if you seriously want it)

I have ONE evening shoot available the week of July 27th-30th (Friday evening of that week is not available since it's the long weekend)

Hello my friends.

How are you on this BEAUTIFUL Thursday morning? I know it's hot and sunny here, the way a summer day should be. I hope you can say the same :)

Well....I'm all caught up on all of my latest sessions. CD's are completed, DVD slideshows are completed, blog posts are up, and I'm feeling so blessed about the summer thus far. I really didn't expect to have as many sessions and positive feedback as I've been getting.

It has definitely taught me to dream big and aim higher!

I can only hope the summer continues in this manner (even though I'm pretty much booked solid) and that next year is even better.

I want to again, thank ALL of you for following my blog and being such an awesome support system. Without you I wouldn't be here. I would have quit a long time ago.

So today I have a challenge for you......

This weekend I want you to take 3 photos of the things that make you happy. I don't care if you're a photographer, I don't care if you have a digital SLR or a point & shoot camera. I don't care if your 3 favourite things seem dumb to you. They're not, especially if it makes YOU happy :)

If it makes you happy take a photo of it!

Then post it to your blog and link in my comments section. If you don't have a blog, just send me an email or just simply list your 3 favs in the comment section.

Engaged: Della & Jamie

Jamie is a guy who knows what he wants.

While discussing details for their upcoming wedding, Jamie was very clear about what sort of photos he was expecting of me. I've known Della since the 5th grade so I was thrilled to know that my style matches not only what Della envisions but 'especially' what Jamie envisions for his & Della's big day.

But what struck me the most about Jamie knowing exactly what he wants, is that Jamie knows he wants to spend the rest of his life with Della.

He knows he wants to take care of her, he knows he wants to be there for her, and he knows that he will love and cherish her the rest of his days.

How do I know this? See for yourself......

He would crack jokes just to see Della laugh & smile

He helped her up once again, after I asked once again, to put that beautiful white skirt on the ground

He brushed the dirt off the beautiful white skirt. Did I mention I loved Della's outfit?

He kissed her affectionately.....even if I didn't ask

And the list goes on....but now it's time for me to be quiet and let the rest of the photos speak for themselves.

Jamie & Della, I cannot wait for your wedding in July.

Based on this small glimpse of your lives that you've already shared with me, I know that your special day will be nothing short of amazing.

She lives in the city. She works in the city. She can swing a baseball bat as good as any boy can. In fact, there are times in her life when she's actually been accused of being a tomboy.

But at heart, this girl, this beautiful girl, is a country girl.

Bobbi-Lynn and I faced the very mosquito infested country roads to do this Just Because shoot.

I must say the bites were worth it.....not sure if I can say the same for Bobbi or not :)

Just Because: Kerri Is Three

To Mommy & Daddy Kerri is their little princess.

After my session with this soon to be 3 year old, I can easily see why.

She didn't mind getting her picture taken for the first 10 minutes and then her remark was

"Okay...now can we go to the park?"

And even though Mommy said she had to wait, that was fine.

No tears, no pouting, we continued on and took more photos.

She was quite the little trooper considering she didn't have her nap that day for this fine evening shoot.

And I can truly say that I now consider Kerri a little princess too.

Clear to Create

I received an email last week called Clear to Create.....I thought it was encouraging especially when photography can be criticized so easily by so many.

Just be yourself and proud of the work you do, I'm learning that...slowly :)

Here are insights for you Clear to Create:

Ego has 3 major components:

       1. Guilt making machine
       2. Fault finding machine
       3. Is constantly saying, "This isn't it! You gotta find it!"

Love yourself first.

Is what comes out of your mouth unconditional love for yourself?

What comes out of your mouth, is it based on unconditional love of others.

Throw the seeds and don't be attached to the outcome.

Mastery is about "playing the game of life" and knowing that it is a game.

Love yourself and don't allow others to bring you down.

You never fail.

You have to feel worthy.

"I am" are the most powerful words, use them wisely.

Don't limit yourself. You are an individual unit of God.

Being always connected to God is like a muscle. The more you use it the stronger it gets.

The Universe is not attached to what I want. It will always deliver what I am focusing on.

Life is a buffet, take only what you want and stop complaining about the rest.

Don't give yourself any excuse to not be on the path.

Just Because: Vicki - Part I

Vicki has been a friend of mine since we were little. We've grown closer as the years have gone by and I now consider her one of my best friends.

She's one of those girls that, even when she's sick & has on no make-up, is still beautiful and you'd love to hate her. But you can't because she's as beautiful on the inside as she is out.

I had the pleasure of photographing my gorgeous friend this past Friday evening. And every shot that I knew was awesome, I would say,...."seriously, I'm in love with you...." usually proceeded by Vicki cracking up with laugher

I call this Vicki's fierce look, mainly because she just pulls it off so well

She's pregnant so maybe that's why there's a lack in posting.

I've also been reading some "business" oriented books in hopes to get a better grasp in some areas about relationships, networking and so on. I figured it would help considering photography is all about people.

I've just finished reading this....

Some of it was helpful,...however he (he being Keith) kept referencing another book that I was already waiting in line to pick up from my local library (have I mentioned I love the library?)

I'll be picking this one up tonight....I have a feeling this one is going to be more useful to me.

But we will wait & see :)

Remember how I said I was at a seminar by Gary Fong a couple of weekends ago? Well after his seminar my friend & I stopped by his booth to see a further demo on some of the gear he sells.

So this is a be-lated version of my Friday feature photographer.

Today it's David Jay

I'm not quite sure how I discovered his website, blog, etc...pretty sure it's through Jasmine Star's website & blog since she lists him as her inspiration.

He's a Christian Photographer, which I really admire about him.

He's not a typical photographer / business-man in my opinion. I think he's a business-man more so than a photographer but he's all about being "open source" and sharing his knowledge and a "share the wealth" mentality.

Instead of being greedy and hoarding all knowledge so that nobody else will have success. It's quite the opposite. It seems the more generous he is, the more successful he is....think about that!

Anyway...check out his stuff.

He's got a great thing going on and very inspirational, especially if you're just starting out like me :)

Weeds

Somedays I just don't know how I'll do it.....

I don't know how I'm supposed to work a 9 to 5 job, be a good wife, become a mother, handle the hormones of pregnancy, and somehow figure out how to be a photographer.

There are days that I think, just give up on this dream. The road is too long and hard.

But I'm reminded of a photo I took a couple of weeks ago, while testing out the awesome zoom lense that Kristen had rented, I took a photo of some weeds.

Kristen was apalled, Christa....why are you taking photos of weeds?

My response....I'm just trying out the lense Kristen!

But truthfully, I thought they looked pretty. I just loved how the yellow stood out against the green grass.

So today even as I am discouraged and having self doubt of the dream that is yet too be. I'll find the good in the situation. The beauty in the weeds if you will. I love photography and even though I know I have a bumpy road ahead, I'm not giving up. This is just the beginning of great things to come. I just have to see the beauty :)

Digital Photography Show

I attented the Henry's Digital Photography show this past weekend.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, especially the seminar by Gary Fong.

Even though it was only a 45min seminar, I did learn a lot. I couldn't scribble my notes fast enough....yes, yes...that would be the nerd in me coming out, loud & clear.

Today I'm just testing out some new colours & template designs for my blog

Not fully feeling this one....hmm...maybe back to the drawing board for a few tweaks.

Chick Clicks

This passion for photography has definitely been a journey for me. From just having a love of pictures, to taking photos of friends & family, to thinking I was going to go pro much too soon to now....

Today I am still an amateur photographer hoping to go pro. But now I'm doing it right.

I'm learning and taking in all information possible to help me along this path I've decided to take.

I read other blogs of photographers (some quite successful) and whole heartedly hang on every word as I'm reading in hopes to pick up on some tip or insight that could help me down the road.

I'm now reading various photography & business books as recommended by other photographers to help me get in the right mind-set.

And I've started sending out emails to photographers in my area asking if I can help them. Either as an assistant, a second shooter, or something as simple as meeting up for a cup of coffee.

Well I've had a couple of responses...one I'm in teh works of setting something up to meet for coffee. More on that once it actually occurs.

And another photographer responded to one of my emails with this!

It's a website for female photographers who are already pro's or are hoping to go pro. They have a forum, workshops, blog, and who knows what else. I just found out about them and it has made my day. This is exactly what I've been looking for, a group in my area where like-minded photographers can meet and be friends. On top of that they're all about being positive and not competitive. They want to encourage one another, not tear down.

Oh yeah baby...I'm all about that.

Happy Victoria Day for you Canadians....though the weather wasn't the greatest, it did not disappoint.
Why you ask? Well it was a great weekend because my husband had rented a 70-200mm zoom lense for his boys weekend. So when he returned I insisted we go for a drive so I could find some things to photograph to test it out. It was my turn to play.

We found swans.....

But oh no that wasn't enough...on to the spirea in our backyard.

And how could I forget....me with the toy! So sad to see it go :(

Tuesday Hodge Podge

Just some hodge podge today...nothing in particular to talk about just random things.

First, the survey.

Thanks for all the input. It was SUPER helpful and I'm using the information to tweak my future packages accordingly.

Secondly, full resolution files.

I've been working on some different ways to give my clients their full resolution photos from their sessions. I think I've finally found something that is both practical and still personalized without looking cheesy. I feel a lot of my "after products" have had some cheese factor. I'm trying to eliminate that. And I'm thinking "mission accomplished" Hey, I'm a rookie here and still learning :)

Third, Custom Photo Albums

The supplier I use for my photo albums have ''pre-set" templates for their albums. I've since figured out a way to custom design my own templates and still use my suppliers album. I can't even express how excited I am about this. I felt the layouts were lacking something.

This way I can portray my clients photo's the way they should be. Hoping to show you a sample soon.

Their work I would describe as urban and colourful.

Just Because: 1st Birthday

As promised my fav's from little N's 1st birthday photo session

The thing about little N he smiles a lot ...just not when the camera is on him.

I did manage to get a few cute ones though....so let's begin

This first couple I call the half smirk, "what's this lady doing?" shots :)

I'm a sucker for seeing kids deep in thought (which is often misunderstood as "why does Christa like pictures of kids that looks like their going to cry" its really not like that)

This shot he was so taken with his sandals, that truthfully he didn't really want to be wearing. It's like he's thinking "how'd these get on my feet?"
Not to mention I LOVE LOVE the natural lighting on this one

And finally some laughter & smiles, the way One Year Old's are meant to be...seriously he's so freakin' cute

Full Circle

I love when things go full circle.....

Do you remember this maternity photo shoot from last April?

And then the newborn photos of little "N" not long after?

Well this weekend (weather permitting and so far it is) I'll be doing his One Year Old photos!

I'm so excited for so many reasons....

First, who doesn't love a little 1 year old and they're cherub faces!

Secondly it seems my 2009 season is officially beginning this weekend....it's warming up, the grass is turning green, we're getting rain days now instead of snow, I have bookings coming my way.

Third, new photos here on the blog.

How boring has this winter been? I apologize sincerely. But no more from now on there will be frequent updates and posts that include photos!

This is my promise to you :)

Soooo....next Monday all fresh photos! Woo-freakin-hoo!

A Time for Change

I apologize for my lack of posting lately....I read once that you should NEVER apologize for not posting on a blog as it's improper blog etiquette, well too bad, I'm breaking the rules and apologizing.

I do have a legit excuse though....

I'm pregnant!

Yes very exciting news I know :)

But with that in mind things here at Cyball Photography will be under-going some transition.

First, I will not be going pro.

Since I cannot start a business and become a Mom in the same year, I've decided my photography will just stay as a serious hobby for now. I'm still taking bookings as previously mentioned until the middle of August (unless something happens to cause that to change).

Second, bookings.

My schedule is starting to fill up which is GREAT!

After a very quiet winter and no bookings at all I was beginning to get very discouraged. But it seems with the warmer weather coming so are my customers.

Book now!

Third, pricing.

It's somewhat changing....I'm trying to keep everything as simple and as time efficient as possible.

Rates stay the same but the package itself will include more.

Bigger bang for the buck in these tough economic times!

2009 Schedule

It seems the weather is getting warmer and photography season is soon upon us.

I wanted to let you know my schedule in case you're planning on booking a summer session.

Currently available from now until mid August

(taking out the week of July that I'm in Nfld)

I will not be taking any bookings for the rest of 2009 after that date.

Which right now also includes Christmas card sessions. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Destination Weddings

I love to travel and what better way to travel than to photograph a wedding?

So to gather experience, pursue my love of travel, I'm offering a FREE destination wedding (destination being defined as outside of Ontario, preferably outside of Canada...he,he)

All you have to pay are travel expenses, but the photography side of things (meaning my DELUXE package with possibly a few perks) will be included.
